Beyond Tenteleni
Returned Tenteleni volunteers often choose to continue
their involvement in the charity by joining the committee.
Check out our vacancies page for more
information. You can keep up to date with what’s happening at
Tenteleni by reading our newsletter (downloadable here, or request a hard copy by
emailing your address to alumni@tenteleni.org.uk). Everyone is
also welcome to join the Tenteleni Reunited group on Facebook -
group.
If this isn’t enough for you and you’re considering going back
to sub-Saharan Africa and maybe visiting your original Tenteleni
placement, do let us know – we’re always interested to hear what
ex-volunteers are up to. And don’t forget, you could always go on
project with Tenteleni again, either as a volunteer or as a
co-ordinator!
If you fancy a new challenge, wherever you are and whatever you do there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with various voluntary projects, both in the UK and overseas. Perhaps the most obvious follow-on from Tenteleni is Voluntary Service Overseas. VSO recruit skilled professionals for long-term volunteering placements abroad, as well as running two programmes specifically for young people (Youth for Development and Global Xchange). See their website for full details: www.vso.org.uk.
For those who don’t have the time or the inclination to combine volunteering and travel, and who just want to do something useful in their spare time, there are numerous organisations specifically set up to promote volunteering, including active university groups and Councils for Voluntary Service (CVSs) all over the country. Pop into your local office to find out about opportunities to suit your requirements. Alternatively you could use the following websites:
