Volunteer Training and Preparation

Tenteleni volunteers must all attend a residential weekend training course in the UK before they depart for their projects. The course covers topics such as cross cultural communication, Youth Issues, language and health and safety. It is also an opportunity to get to know your project team and coordinators.

Volunteers also receive approximately five days training once they are in country. This training enables volunteers to meet representatives from their host organisations, learn some of the local language and get a general feel for the local context.

Extensive self briefing packs are also available to volunteers. These have been written by committee members, with the help of previous volunteers who had Additional Roles, as well as input from host organisations. Topics covered include:

  • An overview of the education system in each project country
  • Youth Issues, including self-esteem, relationships, and HIV
  • Language packs

All this information and further details of the UK training courses can be found on the volunteer pages of this website and can be accessed by volunteers using their personal log in.
